Savvy Tips
Use these tips as a jumping off point for your floral planning.
They will save you both time and money!
-
Determine a rough budget early on and stick to it. If you go into the planning process with a budget, you will be less likely to get carried away or convinced you need to spend more.
-
Pick your color scheme! Classic white? Colorful? Bright? Moody? Check here for some color palette pointers (Note- some colors like blues and purples are rare in flowers and will significantly limit your options.)
-
Fake or real? (Or a combination!) Make this decision as early as possible. Check out our comparison here.

-
An easy way to cut down on costs is to use lots of greens but add pops of color/flowers! Go for at least 3 different types of greens that fit your color palette.
-
Research what flowers will be in season on your date. Some flowers are only available during certain months, while others you can get year round.
-
Its 100% okay to get pricier flowers for your bouquet and personals, and find similar colored “cheaper” flowers for your decor.
-
Try for at least 3 different flowers (unless you’re going for the single flower look) I usually look for a mass or larger flower, a line/ shape/ texture flower and a filler.

-
Think outside the box when it comes to your centerpieces. You don't have to use flowers!
(Centerpieces like these are stunning but pricey and take time to put together. Plus! What are you going to do with all the containers afterwards? )
-
Compare prices! You don't have to get all your flowers from 1 source.
-
Place your flower order(s) at least 1 month out from the date of your event. This will allow you time to pivot if something is unavailable.
-
Have your flowers delivered or pick them up 2-3 days prior to your event so they have time to fully open. (Make sure they are stored in a cool, low light place!)
-
Process your flowers as soon as you get them. Learn how here.
-
When building your designs, always start with greens and build your base, then add flowers.
-
Designate a flower point person. This person should understand your vision and be able to carry it out. Ideally, they should not be someone in your wedding party as setting up flowers can be time consuming. (We've found moms/ moms in law are a great choice!)
-
Do your florals the night before (some you can even do two or 3 days in advance!) and store in a cool place. Even though you think you will, you will not have time day-of to make bouquets/ arrangements.
-
Have a plan for what happens to the flower when everything is done. Does everything get thrown away? Do you ask your guests to take them? Who will make sure this gets done?
